Join Ella in exploring the asana sequences given to us in the Yoga in Action: Preliminary Course by Geeta S Iyengar.
The asanas in this exceptionally well done book were charted out by Guruji (BKS Iyengar) for beginners. It is meant to be a practical guide for those who attend the preliminary course at Ramamani Iyengar Memorial Yoga Institute (RIMYI) in Pune, India. Often when beginners attempt to practice on their own they’ve forgotten what they learned in class, unsure as to where to begin and they get confused. This book is a guide to use in your home practice, after first having studied with a teacher in class.
The lessons will be in a follow-along manner, with Ella Ran, Yoga Instructor at the Yoga Shed. You are welcome to join along from home each week, watch at your leisure or observe as you like.
While this is the preliminary course for beginners, it includes many asanas with some weeks’ sequences including up to 40 asanas in a practice. It includes inversions, but will not be the best place to start if you’re unfamiliar with alignment yoga. As always, practice with awareness and ahimsa, modifying as you see fit.
You’ll need to have handy 4 blankets or towels, a strap or belt, two blocks (or large books) and a chair. If you’d like to order a copy of Yoga in Action to have for home, which includes diagrams and points for instruction, email or message us!
We hope you’ll join us for practice to explore and experience what a consistent, consolidated practice can do for your body, breath and mind.
, where LIVE lessons will be held each Thursday at 2:30pm. The video will be viewable afterwards.
